The Roald Dahl Funny Prize 2013

The Roald Dahl Funny Prize 2013

What a truly splendiferous day it was! The Cambridge Theatre, hosting the ceremony, is the home of ‘Matilda The Musical’ and the set is amazing – rather aptly, books from floor to ceiling!

It was fabulous to meet so many talented authors and illustrators, including the brilliant Sara Ogilvie, for the very first time. And a lovely opportunity for a good old natter with some of my favourite peoples.

Huge congratulations to Simon Rickerty for winning the 0-6 category with his picture book, ‘Monkey Nut’ and to Jim Smith in the 7-14 category with the aptly-titled ‘I Am Still Not A Loser’.  You can read more about the day here: http://www.booktrust.org.uk/news-and-blogs/news/245/

I think many others will agree with me that the real scene-stealers were the children from Newchurch Primary School. Having taken part in the judging process, they attended the ceremony and gave a fabulous performance of extracts from some of Roald Dahl’s books. And then they sang ‘The Candy Man’ from the 1971 film ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.’ Now that was a hard act to follow, but Michael Rosen did his best!

Thanks, Michael and everyone at Booktrust for organising such a wonderful, memorable event!
