19 Nov Picture Book Party!
The monsters had a fabulous time coming out to play at Exeter Library on Monday – at a picture book party! A big thank you to Exeter Library for hosting and to Devon Bookstart for organising the most wonderful, monsterful time for the children.
We played party games, such as story bumps and musical monsters. I had a really tough job choosing the winner for the musical monsters, where the children had to make their bestest, worstest, most scariest monster face. But I did manage to choose a winner in the end, and hope the little girl enjoys the copy of ‘Do Not Enter the Monster Zoo’ which Bookstart presented her with.

With Debbie Thomas and children from St Matthews Community Pre-School. Little girl on the right was the monster face winner!
We also had fun with my cheeky monster skittles, which of course had to come out to play.
It was lovely seeing the children having so much fun. A party is definitely a great way to engage very young children in the world of books and imagination. This was the second in a series of six picture book parties being held all across Devon as a new way of encouraging children in their reading.
Kath Walters, Devon Bookstart Outreach Officer, even presented each child with a lovely little party bag when it was time to go home.
So a big thank you to everyone involved with the event, especially to all the children from St Matthews Community Pre-School who came and took part. I hope there’ll be an opportunity for another picture book party soon!
