‘Palle det Prikne Pindsvin!’

‘Palle det Prikne Pindsvin!’

It was lovely to receive two new co-editions of ‘Hodge the Hedgehog’ through the post recently. One was the Danish version, which included some fantastic gems. For a start, the title is ‘Palle det prikne pindsvin’ which I think is brilliant! What fantastic words. Not speaking a huge amount of Danish myself, it was pretty much impossible to ‘read’ the story, but I did LOVE the names the other characters were given. Gone were Bill the Badger, Mouse and Marvin the Mole…and in their place: Gravelingen Gertrud, Mogens Muldvarp and Vandrotten Vagn! I love languages and think I may just have to learn Danish now!

This is my first experience of an international co-edition and there will be more to come. It’s really interesting to see how your book is interpreted though. The second co-edition I received was the version published in Thailand, which is semi-educational and includes a fantastic make-it-yourself hedgehog at the back of the book. Brilliant….

I hear there’s been quite a bit of international interest for the upcoming Gruff Guides and I can’t WAIT to see what on earth happens to him in translation!
