FAQ

Why did you become a writer?

I’d always loved writing and I realised a few years ago that if I didn’t give it a go, I’d be really annoyed with myself. And then I’d be so grumpy that no-one would want to employ me anyway, so it seemed a good idea.

How do you find inspiration?

Things my children say or do often inspire me. My son attempting to pronounce ‘hedgehog’ when he was 2 years old led to the creation of ‘Hodge the Hedgehog’ seconds later. As my brain works overtime, I often create ideas when I’m asleep and one of the novels I’m hoping to write is the result of a really detailed dream.

What was the first thing you ever wrote?

The earliest piece which has stuck in my mind is a song I wrote when I was five years old, called ‘Little One’. I still hum it sometimes, when no-one is listening.

If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?

An archaeologist. There’s something so exciting about digging deep into the ground and discovering mysteries from the past. It’s like putting together pieces of a puzzle.

In another world, I think I’d be a dragonologist.  Dragons are such amazing creatures so I would happily study them and become an expert in that area!
