The house at the edge of magic

I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that my debut middle-grade comic fantasy adventure The House at the Edge of Magic will be published by Walker Books in spring 2021. Huge thanks to everyone at Walker for their enthusiasm for the story, and also to my agent, Julia Churchill at AM Heath, for arranging the deal.

This is my first middle-grade novel. I’ve been wanting to write it for years, but found myself so busy, it didn’t happen. Finally, I decided that if I was going to write it, I just had to find that time somehow. My new baby didn’t ‘do’ sleep much, so I wrote the first draft in 4 minute bursts while he napped. That was enough to get the story down from beginning to end. Then the editing could begin! And here we are.

So, what’s the story about?

“Set in a Victorian-style world, The House at the Edge of Magic follows the sparky character of Nine, an orphan pickpocket,” reads the synopsis. “When she steals a beautiful house-shaped ornament from the purse of a witch, she knocks on its tiny door and enters a world of magical and brilliantly funny characters, placed under a spell that they need Nine’s help to break.”

There will be more coming soon so watch this space!
